Bio

Bailey Triggs is a fine artist from West Palm Beach, Florida who is currently living and working in Savannah, Georgia. Her heavily textured work delves into the emotional and material aspects of memory, deeply influenced by her personal experiences with dementia in her family and the uncertainty of her own future. Her practice is an exploration of how we hold onto the past, both through the physicality of objects and the subjective nature of recollection.

Artist Statement

"My work explores the concept of memory in both material and subject. Dementia runs heavily in my family, and my future is uncertain. This has led me to become obsessed with the idea of reliving memories and holding onto the past. I struggle to throw away paper trash such as receipts, mail, to-do lists, and old planners. I use these items to collage onto panels and create a textured surface, where I then paint from reference images of my own intimate memories, family photographs, and memories of place, using historical archives from home state of Florida. I also make the paper into a pulp which I use to make sculptural and installation work, often serving as altars which allow for reflection. Bright colors and heavy texture makes us reinterpret the memories and suggests a celebration of the complexities of the past, rather than a mere recollection. Creating textured surfaces adds an immersive quality, making memories tangible and inviting interaction. The interplay between materiality and the emotional weight of history also creates an experience that invites viewers to engage with their own personal memories."
